February 15 – March 14 2014

Pg Art Gallery will be hosting the “[ ]” exhibition, featuring artist notebooks from Funda Alkan, Ceyda Aykan, Kerem Ozan Bayraktar, Elsa Ers Brosh, Can Ertaş, Reysi Kamhi, Ayşecan Kurtay, Sinan Logie, Devran Mursaloğlu, Hale Güngör Oppenheimer, Yağız Özgen, Tunca Subaşı, Candaş Şişman and Ayşe Wilson, between February 15 and March 14. The bracket sign relates to the notebooks through the acts of leaving ajar, opening up and going into detail; it opens up discussion of the leftovers or the potentially possible and the linear history of artists who are often determined by the art market and art history.

The notebook is the first point where the artist’s thoughts and materials meet without the concerns of being seen or time and space. It is possible to consider the notebook as a daily recorder in which many artists put their impressions and model their ideas. Reflecting travels, workshop environments and individual relationships, they can be quite private at times. They enable a link between the daily lives of artists and their artworks and make visible the meaningful and meaningless images in the unconsciousness of the artists.

The exhibition offers visitors the possibility of seeing the starting points of a work of art or how a project evolves in time, together with unrealized projects, through texts, sketches and collages. It also gives a special experience to viewers by featuring the ideas of the artists regarding these notebooks.

“[ ]” is comprised of a wide variety notebook uses, from momentary scribbles to ‘completed’ projects, from hand-made artworks to digital ones. It delves into the relationship between material and artwork, not just concepts.

“[ ]” will run through 14 March at Pg Art Gallery.
